Virtual Private Network (VPN) instructions

Summary

Configure your SVC laptop for working off-campus

Body

Background

This article provides instructions for configuring computers to use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to access SVC.

VPN is one of two options for employees to use College resources from off-campus.  For an overview of these options, see "How to work from off-campus".

VPN no longer requires an RA (Remote Access) network account.  With MFA, you can use your skagit.edu login and password.  This allows you to use your College owned laptop  (with all it's programs and files) from home.  If you do not have access to the VPN, but need it, please reach out to the helpdesk, who will work with you to get approval.

Before attempting to connect to Skagit's VPN, you need to have Okta configured for MFA use.  If you have not set this up previously, you can use these instructions

SVC laptops have the AnyConnect software already installed, but installation instructions here

Logon and use the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client

  2. The Logon dialog will appear.
    1. In the Group field enter Skagit_VPN (if it isn't already there).

    3. Confirm your password by typing it in again in the Second Password box. Click OK.
    4. If you have more than one MFA method set up, there will be a prompt for you to select which one you want to use.
    5. The MFA prompt will appear, asking you to enter the code to confirm your identity OR approving the push notification on your phone, depending on your MFA preferences.  Enter the code and click Ok.
    6. You should see a message about Security policies being applied.  Then a message "You now have access to SVC resources"  Click OK.
