How to access your Google Drive files in Canvas:

  1. Click on the Google Drive link on the left side navigation in your Canvas course.
  2. Click the Authorize button to allow access to your Google Drive account
  3. Sign in to your Google Account 
  4. Click Allow. This grants Canvas to access your Google account.
  5. Locate your file(s) and open it.

How to submit an assignment using Google Drive:

  1. Open assignment
  2. Click Submit Assignment button
  3. Locate the Google Drive tab at the top of the File Upload box
  4. Click the AUTHORIZE button at the bottom of the screen to allow access to your Google Drive account
  5. Click the Allow button. This grants Canvas to access your Google account.
  6. Locate the file for submission
  7. Click Submit
  8. Verify the correct file name in the File name box 
  9. Click Submit Assignment

Note:

  • When Google Drive files (doc, sheets, and slides) are uploaded to a Canvas assignment as a submission, the files convert to their Microsoft counterpart file type and appear in the submission as respective Word, Excel, or PowerPoint files.
  • This conversion essentially preserves the submission in its current state; any changes made to the file in Google Drive will not be updated in the assignment submission.
