This article provides instructions for configuring computers to use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to access SVC.

VPN is one of two options for employees to use College resources from off-campus.  For an overview of these options, see "How to work from off-campus".

VPN requires an RA (Remote Access) network account.  Typically employees use VPN while away from campus..  This allows you to use your College owned laptop computer (with all it's programs and files) from home.  To get an RA account, contact the IT Helpdesk.

First: Download and install the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client

  1. Connect to your local network
  2. Navigate to https://vpn.skagit.edu
  3. At the "Cisco Secure Desktop" dialog box, choose "Log In"
  4. The Logon dialog will appear.
    1. In the Group field enter Skagit_VPN (if it isn't already there).
    2. Enter your RA username and password.  Click OK
  5. Follow the Download and Install instructions.  Depending upon your internet speed it might be beneficial to “SAVE FILE” before attempting to run the installer.

Second: Logon and use the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client

The first time you connect you will need to use the Search tool in the Taskbar to search for the "Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client" and open it.  You may want to pin it to your taskbar for subsequent use.

  1. At the "VPN: Ready to connect, choose "vpn.skagit.edu" and click "Connect"
  2. The Logon dialog will appear.
    1. In the Group field enter Skagit_VPN (if it isn't already there).
    2. Enter your RA username and password.  Click OK
    3. You should see a message about Security policies being applied.  Then a message "You now have access to SVC resources"  Click OK.

Lastly: Disconnect when done

When  you are done using your VPN, please disconnect by clicking the Cisco AnyConnect icon in the system tray and click "Disconnect"
