Clearing Your Web Browser Cache

Note: Internet Explorer is End of Life and No Longer Supported. SVC IT Recommends using Edge, Chrome, or FireFox for regular browsing. For websites that require Internet Explorer, first attempt to use Edge, which has the Internet Explorer browsing engine built in. 

 

The Issue 

Your web browser creates a local cache of website content and settings. 

Sometimes this cache gets outdated and causes problems with the website. 

Follow the below procedures to fix this issue. 

 

Test in Private Mode

Private Mode is a mode of browsing that does not use or save any browser settings or cookies.

Testing in Private Mode will show if you need to clear your Browser Cache to bring back the missing control.

 

  1. Open your Web Browser of choice
  2. Click the settings menu in the top right corner of the window
  3. Select the Private Mode option from the settings menu:

Edge: New InPrivate Window 

 

 

Chrome: New Incognito Window

 

 

FireFox: New Private Window

 

  1. In the new Private Mode browser, navigate back to the website in question.
  2. If the site is now working, continue below at Clear Browser Cache.
  3. If the site is still not working, try another web browser
  4. If the site is still not working in another browser
    1. Clearing the Browser Cache will not help fix this issue
    2. It is possible you are missing some web plugin such as Java
    3. Or maybe the site is currently broken

Clearing the Browser Cache

 

 

Edge

  1. If not already open, open the Edge browser
  2. Click the 3 dot menu in the top right-hand corner of the window
  3. Select Settings from the menu

 

  1. Click the Settings Hamburger menu
  2. Select Privacy, search, and services from the settings menu

 

  1. Scroll down to find the Clear Browsing Data heading
  2. Click the Choose what to clear button

 

  1. Clear Browsing Data Menu: Enter the following information:
    1. Time Range: All Time
    2. Checked:
      1. Cookies and other site data
      2. Cached images and files
    3. Unc-heck all other fields
  2. Click the Clear now button

Chrome

  1. If not already open, open the Chrome browser
  2. Click the 3 dot menu in the top right-hand corner of the browser window
  3. Select More Tools > Clear browsing data

 

  1. Clear browsing data window: Enter the following information
    1. Time range: All time
    2. Uncheck Browsing history
    3. Check Cookies and other site data
    4. Check Cached images and files
  2. Click the Clear data button

FireFox

  1. If not already open, open the FireFox browser
  2. Click the Hamburger menu in the top right-hand corner of the browser window
  3. Select Options from the menu

 

  1. Click the Privacy & Security link on the left-hand side of the settings menu

 

  1. Scroll down to find the Cookies and Site Data header
  2. Click the Clear Data button

 

  1. Clear Data window: Enter the following information
    1. Check the Cookkies and Site Data check box
    2. Check the Cached Web Content check box
  2. Click the Clear button

 

  1. Click the Clear Now button on the disclaimer box that pops up
