How Respondus LockDown Browser works:

  • A Respondus LockDown Browser is a customized browser that increases the security of online testing in Canvas. It is available for Windows, Mac operating systems, Chromebook and iPad. Tests designed to be taken in LockDown Browser cannot be accessed through a standard web browser.
  • A LockDown Browser functions much like a standard browser, but some options have been removed or work differently to offer a robust and secure testing environment. When students use a LockDown Browser to take a Canvas test, they are unable to print, copy, go to another website or access other applications, or close a test until it is submitted for grading.
  • Respondus is ideally used in non-proctored online test environments.
